As a dealer working at the Santa Fe Hotel in Las Vegas for ten years, the announcement that Stations purchased the Santa Fe was good news until I took a look at Stations web Site www.stationcasinos.com and looked at the page "Questions and Answers" for present Santa Fe workers. It was a sad bunch of statements made by Stations and only mentioned on their web site.

Of course the Lowdens sent all employees a copy of the WARN ACT, and that's about it. The media was never told of the intentions of Stations in regards of what will become of the current staff, only the web site. This makes you feel pretty bad knowing that that is all you receive for ten years....a termination slip. Of course you may reapply with Stations, but no guarantee of being hired, or if hired no promise of working at the Santa Fe- The existing employees of Stations have priority over you, if they want a transfer, they get it first. You have to start all over again, you lose all benefits like vacation insurance, sick day pay and floating holidays. That's really hard to swallow considering you did absolutely nothing wrong.

The failure of the Santa Fe happened only because of the Lowden management team was calling all the wrong shots. So the little people get the shaft. What better reason is there to have a Union. And just think about it, here's an ex-Senator that is the person behind this. It would have been very easy to leave employees alone and let them be evaluated by Stations after the takeover. Stations is surely wise enough to know that the Lowdens have destroyed every property they ever owned or ran.  And then to top it off, did Stations feel they spent $204 million to acquire incompetent employees that do not meet their standards? What a cop-out!  Half the dealers working at Texas Station were already fired from the Santa Fe years ago.

Bottom line is that the bean counters are too cheap to keep employees that have earned the few meager benefits they now receive. Is this going to set a precedent of what other casinos can do to rid themselves of old employees? Just lease out your casino for 5 months, go on a vacation and when you return all the old-time help will be gone. Good for somebody trying to keep these heartless corporate money-mongers in line.

I'll be first to hope a Union can keep this from happening and ruining lives of so many people that have worked so hard with this handicapped management they had to work under.  Let's see if the lawmakers care about making a law about this type of takeover. If you have any suggestions of what road to take , or any existing laws, or any type of advice about this, please let us know.

Thank You, # 23-LV

***NFGE Response***

This is a tough problem and we have to do some research and make some inquiries. We promise to be addressing this problem soon.  If anyone out there has some ideas, let's hear them.
