Hello, I am a dealer at Harvey's Council Bluffs, Iowa and we just found out
today that an employee working slots at the casino accidentally dropped a $25 dollar chip in their toke box. Her supervisor wouldn't let her get into the box to retrieve it.

Once it was dropped it was a done deal and they made her take a $25 variance that day since the $25 was part of her bank. I wondered, is this the same company that takes it upon themselves to go looking in our toke box at the request of a guest, open our toke box and give him back the toke that he left for the dealers.

My, My .....they think having a so called pizza party for the dealers these days is going to smooth things over...Wrong! We want our money and the stealing from the toke box (in more ways than one) has got to S T O P. As we said, they might be able to legally steal from the public but they will get a fight when they steal from the dealers in Iowa....

To Harvey's dealer:

You can do three things, in the order given. But you must get the dealers themselves to agree, and then stick to your guns.

  1. Write a letter to management from a "dealer's committee" demanding the return of your money. No individual dealer needs to sign it but you can say that it represents the view of a majority of the dealers. Give them three days to respond.

  2. If you get a negative response, or no response, draft a letter to your state's gaming authority.  Explain that management stole your toke money from the dealer's toke box and when you made a demand for its return, they refused.  Tell them that you are filing a complaint with the local police in three days unless they intervene.  Send it certified mail, but first call and get the name of the person to address the letter to.

  3. If you get no help from Gaming, then file the complaint with the police and then call your local newspaper and give them a "press release" about the police complaint. Once you show them a copy of the complaint, they know it is legitimate news and will print the story.

If all this doesn't convince the management of your casino that they should not steal your money, then go to the courthouse and file a small claim action against them. I believe that you will succeed.  And, of course, if you do succeed, issue another press release to tell of the result.  In any case, let me know how you make out.

And remember the words: GO UNION!

Mr. Lipsman,

We are very concerned about Harvey's stealing money from our toke box. We feel they are doing it on a daily basis. They have dealers changing table layouts, handing out pay checks for up to four hours, handing out birthday cups to our guest, shredding cards, doing tga, and using three dealers to clean and vacuum for up to four hours. And although they are not dropping tokes, Harvey's pays them the toke rate for that day.

We feel that they are stealing from us to compensate these dealers wages, even though they are not dealing and doing maintenance and other tasks for the casino.. And by the way, none of this is in our job description that they brought from Lake Tahoe with them. I have accused them of this and we don't see as much of it now, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.

We can't keep track of where every dealer is that is on the schedule. I have been there 5 years, and I told them I didn't want to be making beds 5 years from now. And with the pattern they were setting I was afraid that I would be. I know we need a contract and we are working towards that now.

I just wanted you to know that it is much worse than is being told. I want to thank you for your swift response to my email and will pass this on to the other dealers.

Sincerely,
Unhappy Dealer at Harvey's
