One of the letters posted to this board suggests that
the Sahara Hotel & Casino has a policy of firing new hires
days before their probation. I would like to comment to this.
I am a casino shift manager at the Sahara, and I can tell
you, I have never terminated an employee on probationary release
for the purpose of saving on benefits. I have never received any
direction from a casino manager or general manager to do the same.
When Mr. Bennett bought the Sahara in 1995, every employee
in the hotel was considered a new hire. All of them went through a
new hiring process.
Mr. Bennett didn't own the place two months before he
reinstated everyone's seniority. Many employees had been
there 30+ years, and all of them were given their four weeks
vacation. This is a very expensive gift to his employees. Does
this sound like a management team that is guilty of unfair labor
practices?
If an employee at the Sahara is termed under probationary
release, they have some serious problems with either their
attitude, or their game.
I know some properties might do these things, but the
Sahara is not one of them.
