To all the dealers in Las Vegas --- I am a
dealer at The Las Vegas Hilton and have been for 8 years. In
that time period I have seen my benefits and my income
decline--also I have seen new management come in and change
everything with no respect to seniority. If you were to ask
me 8 years ago if a union was necessary then I would have said no.
But now I can tell you from first hand experience that a union is
absolutely necessary -- Many of my benefits were cut out so the
new CEO's (PPE) could give themselves a nice hefty raise.
Four million a year was not enough so he cut our benefits and
perks so he could make well over 7 million a year. Now on
days that I should be spending with my family such as Christmas, I
am out pumping cards for minimum wage when Front Desk employees
are making 2 1/2 times their hourly wage of $14 an hour.
That is correct -- union front desk employees make $14 an hour and
they only have to put up with the rudest customer for only about 4
minutes on average. Multiply $14 by 2 1/2 and you end
up with $35 an hour.
-- Of course spending time with your family on an important
holiday is priceless.. at least $35 an hour helps compensate your
sacrifice for the corporations huge cash flow on these holiday
weekends. If there are any casino dealers out there that
feel the casinos more then justify their compensation then I
suggest you take a look at Money.com and search under the top 100
companies to work for in America. You will not find one
casino corporation in that 100 companies list. Not one -- not even
MGM-Mirage.
I had it good once -- and it was all taken away by a greedy
corporation and a greedy CEO that saw an opportunity to fatten
their income. Don't think that it won't happen to you
---Hard Rock, The Venetian, MGM, Mandalay Bay, The Bellagio. Three
years ago The Hilton dealers were making more then all of you were
making now and the benefits were sooooooo much better then what
you have today.
