Hello Las Vegas Dealers,

Monte Carlo Dealers have struck down union representation by a unanimous decision.  Quite honestly I am surprised by just how much the vote for representation was shot down there and am more then disappointed considering I have never heard anything good about working there.

I guess the dealers that work there have a very short memory of prior working conditions before the threat of unionization woke management up and management gave their sob stories about how they did not know it was such an issue and that if you just give them one more chance then they will change their ways.

Maybe they believed that if they voted union and became unionized that they would not be able to get jobs at any other casino in town (from what I know all the dealers at Monte Carlo have been trying to find other jobs in town since they got hired there.)

By the way this is another lie by management that you have fallen for -- The specific law states that an employer can not discriminate against age, sex, religious affiliation, or organization (that includes unions) that the applicant  belongs to.  I know several people that used to be in a union (bartender, waiters, etc...) that work at non-union hotels all across the city of Las Vegas. I feel the dealers there wanted union representation but were scared because the lies that management told them.

To all Monte Carlo dealers:  How long will it take for you to forget that you had an opportunity to change the way Las Vegas casinos treat casino dealers?  How long do you think it will take for management to go back to their old ways?  (I give them three months.)  As soon as management at my casino heard of the election results the first thing that one of the Asst. Shift Managers did was go to the one of the union "pushers" (managements favorite term) and tell him the results while he was on a game like he was gloating.

That incident turned out to be managements biggest joke for the rest of the night.  ALL casino executives in Las Vegas are gloating right now.  Why? Because they know that if all properties beat the Union vote that none of the properties in Las Vegas will have to increase their wages or benefits to
compete with the union to keep union representation out.  Obviously Monte Carlo dealers forgot about working conditions when they signed their cards and forgot how management treated them before the threat of unionization.

Obviously casino executives are right that dealers are dumb by believing that if you give them a quarter raise and be nice to dealers that they will forget about union representation and think that management will change for the better.  How long do you think it will take for Monte Carlo management to forget??  Do you think they will remember next January when it comes to consideration for that cost of living increase in your hourly wages?  (Management will get their increase to help pay for inflation -- You can rest assured that the CEO of Mandalay Bay Group and MGM-Mirage will get nice bonuses!!!)  When the corporation that you work for has a 30% increase in earnings do you think they will remember you, the casino dealer as a part of that success or do you think they will just give upper management a nice bonus for a job well done?

The biggest fear of all Casino Executives in the city of Las Vegas right now is that the dealers of one of the casinos in this town will vote Yes for union representation.  Why?  Because if there is one casino in this town that has better benefits and a better hourly wage then all casinos will have to
follow to keep the union out of their casino!   Do not forget dealers of Las Vegas why you signed that union representation card -- do not think of working conditions before the threat of a union was hanging above your casino - think of the working conditions that were in place before you signed that card.

Another lie of the casinos is stating that the TWU has no experience in dealer representation and has no business being in Las Vegas.  First of all the TWU has stated that the National Federation of Gaming Employees (the dealers that have been striving for union representation since the late 1980's)  would have a major part in the negotiations of a contract for representation.  The people who started the NFGE are all dealers that have been in the business for decades and know what needs to be done to make Casino dealing jobs a respected profession and not a tool for management to make millions of dollars at a minimal investment.

Tell me Monte Carlo Dealers -- How long will it take for you to forget?  Will you have forgotten about Union Representation when it comes down to applying for that new upscale resort only to be turned down because the new property says they are looking for somebody more qualified?-- Only to find
out later that they hired somebody that deals no games and does not even live in Las Vegas!!  Paris did this - I know of at least one person there that got hired that did not even know how to deal one game!!

Will you have forgotten when you are applying for that job at Hard Rock and management asks you where are your tits?  Yes CJ (the casino manager at the time I applied there) I remember even though that was five years ago.  How about the famous letter that I received from Venetian that said they hired somebody more qualified than me-- only to find out that they hired several dealers that only deal one game -- I deal all games very, very proficiently- and I have a degree.  (Maybe it was the fact that I had to interview with a 20 year old UNLV intern that had no clue about the casino business that did me in there.)

How about when you are trying to transfer into your company's new premier resort only to find out that you are passed up and then you have to train somebody off of the streets to learn how to deal so they can be ready for that job?  Hello Stevie Wynn and Bellagio!  I don't forget that either.  How long will it take for you to forget how much you have been humiliated by these casinos?  The casino corporations are right -- You are idiots because you have already forgotten!!  The past four months have been easy street for all Las Vegas Dealers because management has been showing you that they can change for the better -- I want all Monte Carlo Dealers to keep track on a calendar how long it takes for management to do something at your casino that you feel is an injustice.

And I want all dealers in this town to remember the labor union that was willing to help them (the TWU) make casino dealing a respectable job where it takes skills to get a job and not tits.  If you think the TWU is not the right union then what is?  The Culinary union and the Teamsters would have nothing to do with you because they are in the pockets of the casinos.

Did you forget that the Culinary Union and the Teamsters were first contacted about union representation?  Obviously you did and obviously you forgot about working conditions before the threat of unionization was hanging over casino executives heads.  I am just wondering how long it will take for management to forget and return to their old ways.....

P.S.  --- Will you forget the next time you are turned down for a dealing job only to learn that somebody that can not compare to you in dealing ability and experience gets that job?  I highly suggest that you as dealers educate yourselves in the practice of labor laws so you won't be so gullible in the future when it comes down to union representation.  By the way -- just to see if any of my statements are right about hiring practices in this town, please respond to this letter at NFGE.com if you are a dealer with 3+ years of experience dealing more then one game (Let it Ride, Pai Gow Poker, War, Big 6, Caribean Stud, Three card poker, ---no carnival games!!) -- state how you were told you were not qualified and lets see if we can get a class action lawsuit going!!!

Sincerely,

A Dealer that will not Forget.....
