Hello!
My name is Martin, and I'm a dealer in the Montreal Casino (Quebec, Canada). I've been working there
for more then 5 years (and I'm still working). For me, the question of
second - hand smoke is a very big problem. From day one, when I strarted working, it is like a kind of war between me (and my companions) and the casino; for our confort and especially our health.
I've been consulting your site and your news a couple of times, especially your lawsuites against the
State, the tobacco companies and the casinos, trying to find something that could help us. Well, today,
I'm proud to announce you guys, that our union and the casino have concluded a great deal!!!
As of september 8th 2001, the pourcentage of non-smoking tables passed from +/- 40 % to 60%.
Ten months later, may 8th 2002, this pourcentage will be increased up to 75%. The 8th january 2003, we will have 85% of non-smoking tables, and finally, the 8 of october 2003, it will be a memorable date. Party time; 100% of our gaming tables will be smoke free.
Of coarse, it will not rule at all the problem. For the health, it will not be perfect, because for the moment, only the tables are included in the "deal"(with non-smokinf sections), so it will be permitted to smoke almost everywhre else in the casino, but for our comfort, it will be great. We can also hope better for a little later!
Thank you and good luck in your fights!
If you have any question or comments, my name is Martin
