1999 Annual
Report and Membership Renewal
January 1, 2000
Dear Fellow Members:
We are pleased to report that during the past 12 months your
Association has continued to vigorously pursue your agenda of
improving the working conditions of Casino Dealers in Nevada. It
is always a difficult battle but it is one we are pleased to fight
on your behalf and in 2001 we will be there again in front of the
legislature, testifying on issues that concern our Casino Dealers.
During the year, your Association was widely quoted in several
news stories in the Review-Journal, the Sun and the Las Vegas
Business Press. We also appeared on P.O.V, Channel 1.
More important than the publicity however, is the fact that we are
here for you!. It is incredible how many times our phone rings
with calls for help from members who, after years and years of
service, find themselves the victims of arbitrary and unfair
actions by management. Presently we are addressing such actions at
the Circus Circus, Tropicana, Golden Nugget and Caesar's Palace.
It is here, in our non-public dealing with the companies, where we
have had an amazing amount of success. Amazing?... Yes!
Remember, Nevada is an "at-will-employment state". That
means we can never tell a management they can't do something
because it's against the law. The law is on their side, not ours.
Therefore, it requires years of experience and knowledge about the
industry, a carefully measured and reasoned approach tailored to
the members' unique situation to convince management to change its
mind. We have accomplished this many times even to the point of
changing policy (e.g.: convincing Flamingo Hilton management to
drop its hour and twenty on and twenty off policy).
This is your organization. We work for you but we can continue to
be here for you only if we have your financial support. The annual
dues are only $35. Where else can you invest less than $ .70 a
week and get the kind of return the NCDA is giving you?
Please renew your membership today. And, how about resolving to
get just one co-worker to join? Every new member adds to our
strength.
On behalf of the Board of Directors we want to thank you for your
support and we wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New
Year.
Respectfully submitted,
Tony Badillo, President and Jack Lipsman, Vice - President
PS. Could we please get your feedback on these questions: (1)
Should the NCDA seek a total ban on smoking in the casinos? (2)
Should the NCDA seek Union representation? These are important
questions and we want your input.
Thanks.
