Dear Mr. Santo:
We are writing this letter on behalf of a
number of our members who work as casino dealers at the
Flamingo-Las Vegas and who are offended and find abhorrent the
high level of sound of the music system used in the casino.
We understand that you are under no legal obligation to deal with
us on this matter since we are not an elected union, at this time.
Nevertheless, we are obligated to assist our members, by any legal
means possible, to resolve disputes relating to working
conditions, and matters of health and safety.
Since it is our goal to resolve this problem, rather than to enter
into a controversy with you, I urge you to read on.
The problem, as we see it, centers around the idea that management
perceives the high volume level of the music as somehow inducing
in the players an attitude of joviality and fun, and just the
opposite is true. In an overwhelming number of reports from the
dealers at the games, the customers are equally annoyed at the
level of the sound system. They express themselves with statements
like, "the noise is unbelievable," and, "is it
always this loud?"
These do not sound like words uttered by a
pleased customer. Please understand, both we at the Association,
and the dealers themselves want happy customers. Your fortunes and
ours are dependent on these customers. But, when both the dealers
and the customers are overwhelmed and irritated by music that was
intended to set a positive mood, something is awry.
We hope that you look at this letter in a positive light and
contact us soon so we may assist you in quieting the concerns of
our members.
Sincerely,
Jack M. Lipsman, VP
Nevada Casino Dealers Association
