Nonsmoking floor a hit in Detroit

DETROIT---  Smoking and gambling seem to go hand in hand, as casino floors typically fill with the scent of burning cigarettes.  But the MotorCity Casino finds some gamblers prefer to leave the tobacco behind.    The third floor of the four-level casino is for nonsmokers.

Across the Detroit River in Windsor,  Ontario,  Casino   Windsor ditched its unpopular no-smoking area when it moved from a temporary to a permanent site two years ago.   Not so the MotorCity casino,  which opened last year.

There,  the third  floor represents 10 percent of the total gambling space and more than 10 percent of  the patrons  gamble  there.   Devoting whole floors to non-smokers is rare  in the casino world.   There are none in Atlantic City,  the Detroit News said recently.
