In
his second treatise on government, John Locke wrote "Every
Man has a Property in his own Person. This no body has any
Right to but himself. The Labour of his Body, and the Work
of his Hands, we may say, are properly his."
Throughout history, those who would "redistribute" the
wealth, always kept a portion for himself, a large
portion. Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Bill Clinton, George
Bush, and the various Chinese murderers have all done the
same thing, in the same way. "We will help you. "We know
what is best for you." The list could go on.
Steve Wynn's latest move to force the employees of his
enterprises to accept enslavement is beyond belief. He is
another in a long list of those who pretend to rob the
rich and give to the poor. But it is exactly the opposite.
Mr. Wynn is robbing the less fortunate to put more dollars
in his pockets first, and the stockholders of his
enterprises, second. Mr. Wynn, of course, is first.
According to the Holy Bible, "a man is worthy of his
hire." Some years ago the courts decided in direct
conflict with the Holy Bible upon which they swore an
oath, that a dealer's earnings were not his own. The
decision was that the tips that dealers received were the
property of all of the dealers of that casino. The dealers
were required to "pool" their tips and divide the tips
equally with all of the other dealers. The individual
casinos decided how the tips would be divided, per shift,
per day, etc. How the judges came to the conclusion that
an employer had the right to tell its employees what to do
with their money is without an iota of common sense.
That decision is in direct conflict with Mr. Locke's
statement. Mr. Wynn has taken on the power of Mr. Hitler
of Nazi Germany, and Mr. Stalin of that republic that has
fallen by the way. Me is only a man, a mere mortal man.
Some may call his action an act of greed.
I would not. It is
an act of jealousy. Mr. Wynn is jealous of the income of
his employees. He is afraid of his own employees. He, like
Hitler, Stalin and their ilk, must hide behind bars, armed
guards, and skulk around behind steel gates, to protect
himself from those he has harmed.
There is a solution.
Mr. Ghandi of lndia used this action successfully in his
country. Reverend King used this action successfully in
our country. It is called 'civil disobedience'. Anyone who
has read Henry David Thoreau's treatise on civil
disobedience will know and understand how to bring about
Mr. Wynn's change of heart, and leave their money alone.
If every dealer in Southern Nevada, at an appointed time
and date, would simply "spread the deck", hold up the
dice, stop the roulette wheel, and fold their arms and
wait until the rule was changed that the employer cannot
redistribute the wealth of its employees, they would win
this battle.
A lawsuit may be
helpful, but when the employer learns that the power is in
the hands of the employees, they will buckle. They are too
greedy to do otherwise. The dealer's union could make this
work. If only 10% of the dealers took this action the
power would change, the scales of justice would balance.
It won't happen. The dealers must get that next buck in
order to make a bet on the outcome of a game. An event
over which they have no control, unless the referee owes
them money. I have worked in the casinos, my experience
there indicates that there is not 10 out of 100 dealers
that have the guts to stand up for their rights.
When the dealers get
the guts to stand up for their rights, they will win.
Their rights to the property which is theirs. As Mr. Locke
put it, they earned the money with their hands. The money
is theirs. No man. nor government, has the right to take
that money and redistribute it.
