 PEST Committee

ALL for ONE and ONE for ALL!
We are posting information about the P.E.S.T Committee here.

Please be advised, the P.E.S.T. Committee is totally separate from the Union and is a separate action being taken to secure the tips of tip-earners in Nevada.

Important message from the committee to
Prevent Employers from seizing Tips

Facts concerning Initiative Petition:

Wording of Initiative Petition must be submitted to and approved by Secretary of State.

Legal date one can start collecting signatures: January 1, 2008.

Last date signatures can be collected: November 11, 2008.

Only signatures of registered voters are acceptable.

According to the present population, 58,000 signatures are required to make an Initiative Petition valid.

Once signatures are gathered and verified the Initiative Petition will go before the 2009 Legislative session for an up or down vote. If the Legislature votes the Initiative up it becomes law and nothing else is required. If the Legislature votes the Initiative down, it will become a Proposition on the 2010 ballot for the citizens to vote on.

PEST intends to get at least twice the amount of signatures required so that when it goes for the up or down vote the overwhelming amount of signatures may make the legislators realize that it will obviously pass if it goes to ballot and make it law at the up or down vote avoiding having to go to ballot.

Most organizations that pursue an Initiative Petition require 200 to 300K because they hire someone to do all the work. PEST is going to do all the leg work in gathering signatures along with volunteers which will include setting up tables and information with signature gatherers at swap meets, motor vehicle departments and other frequented public areas.

An important part of the success of any Initiative Petition is getting the word out and in order to do that effectively is to advertise on TV, radio and newspapers and this is what we are asking donations for, advertising is expensive, our goal is $25,000.00 so please be generous with your donations.

It is crucial we get the funding to pull this off. Everything we have done so far has been extremely important but the Initiative Petition will be the final nail in the tip confiscation coffin, putting it to rest once and for all.

Assemblyman Bob Beers will do all he can for us next legislative session but remember, although it will be their last term, Raggio and Townsend will still be there.

The Initiative Petition is the only sure way of getting the law fixed because we, the tip earners and citizens of Nevada will vote on it.

Here is a comment from Wynn dealer’s attorney JP Kemp after I asked him for some input on the wording of the Initiative:

Dear Al:

First, I applaud the efforts. I am glad that people are pursuing this avenue and I am sure that if an item like this gets on the ballot that it will be approved by the voters. I appreciate that you have asked for my input.
