Dear Wynn Dealers and
Gaming Employees,
Many of you have
called or e-mailed me inquiring our status with Transport
Workers Union (TWU). I have also been contacted by
numerous media. This has prompted me to give you an
update.
As of this date, there
is no affiliation or agreement in place between IUGE and
TWU. However, we are in discussions, and have another
meeting next week. I will keep you informed as to IUGE’s
role when and if it develops more clearly and if there are
any changes in our procedures with the in-house
organizers.
Meanwhile, you should
know that we have been working closely with Assemblyman
Bob Beers in structuring AB –357. This is a second
attempt from a bill introduced by Barbara Buckley
(currently Speaker of the Assembly) in 1995, to prevent
employers from taking employees’ tips. Bob is a good guy
and pushing this issue by introducing it again.
This past week, I
traveled to Carson City to testify in front of the
Assembly Judiciary Committee. I am pleased to say that we
had a very good turnout both here in Las Vegas and Carson
City. So good, that the numbers were too high to allow
everyone to testify. However, my testimony pointing out
several reasons why our Union supports the Bill was copied
for the record and distributed to all the Committee
Members.
I must impress upon
you the importance of contacting your Assemblyperson and
tell them you are in favor of this Bill, AB – 357. Tell
them to vote YES! They will listen to you. Our next
battle will be in front of the Senate Committee (yet to be
named). I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, you can go to this
website and contact your Assembly person,
www.wynndealers.com
At times, it may seem
that there is a “lull” in activity. I assure you that we
are assertively working on your behalf. If you still have
any questions, I’m happy to talk to you, anytime. Keep
strong and focused.
Sincerely,
Tony Badillo,
President
