Wynn: tip pooling pumps table hold

Steve Wynn said tip pooling works.

Steve Wynn says the controversial policy that had casino dealers going to war over his requirement that they share tips with floor supervisors is showing positive results.

Table hold percentages jumped, he said, as he switched to the policy that has "team leaders," as the supervisors are now known, getting a share of the tips.

"We have distributed the money more evenly among the people that are at the table servicing the guests," he said. The team leaders, he explained, "are serving the guests exactly the way the dealers do … paying attention to their needs, schmoozing with them, giving them free drinks, keeping track of their play."

Table hold percentages have increased since the policy took effect, he said, adding that players spend more time at the table.

Dealers saw this as a "take-away," but he says now that dealers were told that if they acted as a "service team" at the tables the tips would climb back to where they were before."

"The dealer tips are back to being terrific," he said. "They’re the most high paid people in the state of Nevada, our people."                                      [up]
